hi there,
Engineering 145 is now at UT for one night only this semester. This is for current engineering majors at UT
At Stanford, ENGR145 is a class "Technology Entrepreneurship". Tom Byers started it. Tom Kosnik took it to the next next level. They both went way out on a limb to bring me on so I am using their textbooks for the unOfficial MBA class I am teaching at Wharton. It is called ENGR145. Technology Ventures and Gear Up and "What They Don't Teach You at Harvard Business School"
Who puts an engineering ENGR class inside of a b-school?! I do cuz I am hiLarryAss.
ENGR145 at Stanford is for engineers only. Here at this two hour workshop at UT, my goal is to be your entire school year's tuition in ROI (return on investment). The stuff that I know is critical for you to know. I put it at the Four Seasons hotel so I'd have fewer steps to walk. If you're an athlete like me on full academic scholarship because you rock as a student AND athlete, just effen pretend you had to pay like $60k per year. Mmmk?!
I wrote "What They Don't Teach You In Stanford Business School" as an homage to my mentor, Mark McCormack. You see, he taught me (for zero money) genius shitake. He charged me zero money. I was an engineer and not super street smart. I learned three things from HIM that I will teach YOU.
- sales (cold calling via the warm call method)
- entrepreneurship
- reading people.
If you're foreign and do not trust me, then know that I am a great American from Silly-con-Valley. Giving your a boatload of free knowledge is how I roll. I taught undergrads at Indiana University to wrangle in Mark Cuban at a SuperBowl party. It was produced by an IU undergrad btw. I was in Indiana for the Superbowl where the NY Giants played the Patriots. You see, I am in Austin for SXSW / Austin City Limits.
See a pattern here?! I visit cities for cool stuff and meet up with undergrad engineers.
This event (is at a reverse fee) using the "Larry Chiang Reverse Rebate model" - http://voices.yahoo.com/reducing-friction-startups-5-tips-founders-11074446.html Basically, I pay you to come.
First 5 pay $5, get $20 if u show up and check-in on Facebook
Second 5 pay $10 and get $20 if u show up and check-in on Facebook
Third five engineers at UT pay $20 and get $20 back if u show up and check-in on Facebook
*You can cancel (but not transfer) inside of 12 hours and get a 100% refund.

KEY SPECIFIC TAKEAWAYS
-------------------
Focus will be on sales and entrepreneurship.
The short term positive effect will probably be a marque paid internship where we as engineering undergrads get paid to get MBA quality knowledge.
I, Larry Chiang, will teach you how to
- close deals via voicemail
- accelerated networking via cold-emailing people that are legends in technology
- be an "old person whisperer'
- get a paid internship (combination punch of the above three)
- launch and get credit for a franchise concept on your campus (google Ga Ga Guaranteed exits 2013)
- go from crasher to VIP at any tech party or tech conference
- learn how to never ask permission OR have to ask for forgiveness
- teaser: Use 'Lemonade and Gua Gua Guacamole' to promote your startups launch party that you get paid to produce. It is 'pay me to do lead generation'
- promote your fledgling mini company concept (LCMCC) at a demo table.
Mastering the cold call means instant success, so buy a ticket, get off your computer, and learn from a master.
Here's a quick piece from Austin Startups that will give you some quick tips at the bottom on how to be a great cold caller. - http://austinstartup.com/2012/09/how-to-cold-call-proof-your-business/
Yes, voicemail is a secret tech tool to land you and your message into the cerebral cortex of an old person that is rich and powerful http://gigaom.com/2008/02/28/9-tools-to-close-a-deal-via-voicemail/
Getting a legendary silicon valley internship where we get paid to learn tier one MBA shitake
